Cottage Frequently Asked Questions

The check-out time for the cottages is 10am and the check in time is 3pm. This allows for all six of our cottages to be cleaned and sanitized between guests.

If you expect to be late (e.g., after 8PM) or check in on a later day, please let us know by phone or email and we will ensure you have all of the information you need for check-ins.

You will need to bring your own bed linens & shower/beach towels for your stay. Each cottage bed will have a waterproof mattress cover on it, a fitted sheet, and pillows.

Our cottage kitchens are fully equipped with all that you need for your stay, including coffee makers, tea kettles, microwaves, ovens, propane BBQs, plates, glasses, pots/pans, and cutlery.

Park policies

Please be aware that along with our rental cottages, we also have seasonal campers and overnight camping sites within our park. As such, all amenities are shared among park visitors including the beach, play park, nature trails, and boat launch. It is expected that all guests are respectful to others within the park, including respecting Quiet Hours (11PM).

Auxiliary tents or trailers

No tents or trailers are permitted to be placed on the lawns of the rental cottage.

Illness and reporting

If you have a fever or flu-type symptoms, please stay home. The Canadian government has an online assessment you can do. Please do this prior to your arrival.

If you have tested positive for COVID-19, are a presumptive case, or have been in contact with anyone who has tested positive or is a presumptive case, we request that you do not attempt to enter the park. Please remain at your residence until you have been cleared by your local health department.

If you test positive and have been at the park in the prior 14 days, we ask that you contact us immediately so that we can best assess potential risk to other campers and staff members, with advice from our Health Unit.

During the peak season, the desired rental period is by the week (Friday to Friday) and, when available, the weekend (Friday to Sunday). Outside of peak season, a 2 overnight stay minimum is required. The staff at Thompson’s Black Rock Park are happy to discuss with you availabilities and work together to book a stay that works best for you. Give us a call and we can see what is available at 613-256-1020!

Yes, each of the cottages have a portable air conditioning unit installed.

All cottages except The Lakeview Cottage have a heating source. All other cottages have a pellet stove.

Yes, there is both hot and cold running water in all of the cottages. The water is also drinkable and is tested regularly.

Yes, we are lucky enough to have cell phone coverage in most of the areas of the park. Of course this can vary depending on cell phone provider and some areas are better than others. Ask at the park store for the best places to check if you are having difficulties.

Bundles of firewood can be purchased at the park store. To ensure the sustainability of our forests in our park and to reduce the risk of the introduction of invasive species, no firewood is permitted to be brought in to the park.

There are garbage and recycling containers located in all cottages. We ask that you bring your garbage up to the dumpster and recycling bins located near the main office at the entrance to the park. We strive to recycle all materials possible, so we ask that you sort your recyclables in to the designated bins. Do not worry – we have made it easy for everyone! There is a bin for each material type and they are all well labeled. All other household garbage can be placed in the dumpster. Please note that we only accept household garbage.

Yes, pets are allowed in the park to a maximum of one dog per cottage and/or campsite. Please note a $25 cleaning fee will be applied to the reservation if a pet is staying with you for your stay. We also ask that pets stay off furniture, including sofas and beds.

All dogs must be kept on leash at all times when walking throughout the park. We ask that no dogs be brought to the beach. Instead, when it is not busy, dogs are welcome to go for a swim at the boat launch. Picking up after your pet helps to keep the park clean for everyone.

At this time we do not rent boats, kayaks or canoes. We do have a boat launch located in the park though, where you are welcome to launch your own boat from.

The Glen cottage has it’s own dock, and we also have another dock that is designated for other five rental cottages. Depending on how many people renting the cottages also bring boats, and the size of their boats, will determine the space available. It can be limited. Best case you can launch your boat and have it docked at the dock for your stay. Worst case you may have to launch it for each trip on the lake. The boat launch is easily accessible and is a nice easy sand launch.

Do not hesitate to call or email the park if you have any questions.

Each cottage rental includes up to a total of 6 adults for your stay. Other visitors are welcome to visit you at the park, but we ask that they register and purchase a day use or overnight pass at our park store at the park entrance. A fee of $7.00 for the day or $14.00 for overnight guests will apply per adult (over 18 years old). Children are free and must be accompanied by an adult.

If you wish to pay the registration fee in advance for your visitors, that is no problem. You can make arrangements at the park store by providing their names and their arrival dates.

Each visitor will be given a park pass for their vehicle and will be let through the electronic security gate. Office staff will be happy to give your guests a park map and provide directions to your cottage. Although there is ample parking at each cottage, please be respectful of all guests and ensure you park in the driveway of your cottage.

Quiet time in the park is 11pm. In order to respect everyone in the park, we ask that music be kept low after this time. Songs around the campfire are always welcome!

We ask that ATVs and mini bikes are not brought to the park. This is because the roads throughout the park are narrow and there are many families with small children playing throughout the park.

No, all of our cottages are smoke-free. We ask that if you do smoke to please do so outside the cottage and to please dispose of the cigarette butts responsibly in the garbage.

The balance owing for your stay can be paid upon check in at our Park Store. Payment options include cash, debit/credit, or e-transfer.

Yes, all cottages have free WIFI in them.
