Cottage Frequently Asked Questions

This allows for all of our cottages to be cleaned and lawn maintenance to be done between guests.
Late arrival:
If you expect to be late (e.g., after 8PM) or are not arriving on your first reserved day, please let us know by phone or email and we will ensure you have all of the information you need for check-ins.
You will need to bring:
- Bed linens – each cottage bed will have a waterproof mattress cover on it, a fitted sheet, and pillows with pillow cases. You will want to bring with you your warmer bedding
- Towels – for the shower and the beach
Our cottage kitchens are fully equipped with all that you need for your stay, including:
- coffee maker and tea kettle
- microwaves
- stove/ovens
- propane BBQs
- plates, glasses, pots/pan, cutlery
- kitchen towels and wash cloths
- dish soap, garbage bags, broom
Items that you may find helpful to bring are:
- cork screw / bottle opener
- scissors
- lighter/matches for campfire
- hand soap
- shampoo/conditioner
Reservations
Reservation requests are made online via our website and are approved by Park Management. Once confirmed, a $500 deposit is required to hold the reservation (paid by etransfer).
Linens
Guests are required to bring:
- Bedding – a mattress protector and fitted sheet will be on each bed, along with pillows and pillow cases. Guests will want to bring heavier bedding, such as flat sheets and comforters.
- Bath and beach towels
Pets
- The Riverview Cottage is pet free
- All other cottages allow for a maximum of one dog is able to stay in the cottage with you for your rental period
We ask that dogs be help on a leash while out exploring the park, and that they are not brought to the beach or playpark.
If your dog would like to swim, they are welcome to swim at the boat launch if it is not busy. Please note that we request that pets being brought into the park have up to date vaccines.
Guest identities
Only registered guests are permitted to stay at the cottage rental. Full names of guests must be provided to the park management at time of check-in.
All other guests are required to register at the store and purchase a day or overnight pass. Note that maximum number of guests per cottage include visiting overnight guests (6 people for The Glen and Grandpa’s Wharf, and 4 people for all other cottages).
No guests 19 years old or under are permitted to stay at the cottage rental without adult supervision, and people renting the cottage must be at least 25 years old.
Cancellations
Cancellations without penalty can be made 2 months (or more) prior to your reservation date.
Cancellations less than 2 months in advance will incur a penalty as follows:
- >60 days prior to reservation date: Full refund
- 30-60 days: $500 fee (full deposit)
- 30 days or less: Full rental price
Park policies
- Please be aware that along with our rental cottages, we also have seasonal campers and overnight camping sites within our park. As such, all amenities are shared among park visitors including the beach, play park, nature trails, and boat launch.
- It is expected that all guests are respectful to others within the park, including respecting Quiet Hours (11PM to 9AM).
Boat launch & boat docks
- The Glen cottage: private dock
- All other cottages: shared dock
There is a dock that is shared between five of the rental cottages. If you are bringing a boat to the park, please let us know and we will do our best to coordinate dock space for you.
If there is not enough dock space for you during your stay, or if you prefer to keep your boat on it’s trailer, you are welcome to park the boat at your rental cabin. They can also be left at the boat launch, off to the side, if preferred.
The boat launch is a sand launch onto Clayton Lake. You can also access Taylor Lake from Clayton Lake.
Beach
The following are not permitted at the beach or the surrounding area:
- alcohol, smoking, or vaping of any kind
- dogs
Auxiliary tents or trailers
- No tents or trailers are permitted to be placed on the lawns of the rental cottage.
Fireworks
- No fireworks, or similar items, are permitted to be used at the park, including on the lawn of the rental cottage
Firearms/replica Firearms
- No firearms or replica firearms of any kind are permitted in the park, including BB or pellet guns.
Peak season (July and August):
- cottages are rented weekly (Friday to Friday)
Shoulder season (May-June and September-October):
- Shorter stays may be permitted, with a minimum two-night stay.
Booking online allows for one week stays only. Please reach out to staff at Thompson’s Black Rock Park to inquire about shorter shoulder stays. Email is best for these inquires: info@blackrockpark.ca Thank you!
Yes, each of the cottages have a portable air conditioning unit installed.
Yes, all cottages have a heating source. The Glen, Grandpa’s Wharf, Granny’s Suite, The Cedar and The Riverview cottages all are heated with a wood pellet stove. The Lakeview Cottage has an infrared heater.
Yes, there is both hot and cold running water in all of the cottages. The water is also drinkable and is tested regularly.
The parking space at each cottage varies, but cottages have parking available directly out front of the cottage.
All cottages have room for two vehicles, with the exception of the Lakeview Cottage which has the smallest parking area (room for one vehicle). However, parking is available a short distance away.
Yes, we are lucky to have a new cell phone tower that was installed across Clayton Lake. At the moment, it gives the park full coverage on the Rogers network. Reliability varies for other cell phone providers.
All cottages have WIFI internet available in them, so WIFI calling is also an option for you throughout your cottage stay.
- Bundles of firewood can be purchased at the park store.
- To ensure the sustainability of our forests in our park and to reduce the risk of the introduction of invasive species, no firewood is permitted to be brought in to the park.
There are garbage and recycling containers located in all cottages.
We ask that you bring your garbage up to the dumpster and recycling bins located near the main office at the entrance to the park. You can do this any time throughout your stay.
We strive to recycle all materials possible, so we ask that you sort your recyclables in to the designated bins. All other household garbage can be placed in the dumpster.
Please note that we only accept household garbage and large items or steel items must be taken home with you.
At check-out:
- Please bring all garbage and recyclable items up to the dumpster and recycling drop-off when you check-out
Yes, pets are allowed in the park:
- The Riverview Cottage is pet free
- All other cottages allow for one small dog per cottage/campsite
Please note a $25 cleaning fee will be applied to the reservation if a pet is staying with you for your cottage stay.
- We also ask that pets stay off all furniture, including sofas and beds and that pets are not washed off in the shower.
- Damage to the cottage, including any furniture, will be the responsibility of the person renting the cottage and a damage fee will apply.
- Please consider bringing a dog bed with you for your stay to make sure your pet is comfortable. If your pet is used to sleeping in bed with you and/or on a couch, please consider not bringing it with you for your stay.
Pets in the park:
- All dogs must be kept on leash at all times when walking throughout the park. We ask that no dogs be brought to the beach or the playground area.
- Instead, when it is not busy, dogs are welcome to go for a swim at the boat launch.
Pet waste:
- Picking up after your pet helps to keep the park clean for everyone. Pet waste can be disposed of in the garbage and garbage bags can be placed in the dumpster.
- Do not dispose of any pet waste in outhouses (this can damage the septic pumping equipment).
- No, at this time we do not rent boats, kayaks or canoes.
- We do have a boat launch located in the park though, where you are welcome to launch your own boat from.
There are also local rental companies who guests have rented boats from in the past. The company delivers and launches the boat, and picks it up at the end of the rental period. A company used by past guests has been Perth Boat Rentals.
Maximum overnight guests per cottage:
- The Glen & Grandpa’s Wharf Cottage: 6 adults
- All other cottages: 4 adults
Guest passes:
Other visitors are welcome to visit you at the park, but we ask that they register and purchase a day use or overnight pass at our park store at the park entrance.
- Children are free and must be accompanied by an adult.
- If you wish to pay the registration fee in advance for your visitors, that is no problem. You can make arrangements at the park store by providing their names and their arrival dates.
- Each visitor will be given a park pass for their vehicle and will be let through the electronic security gate. Office staff will be happy to give your guests a park map and provide directions to your cottage.
- Although there is ample parking at each cottage, please be respectful of all guests and ensure you park in the driveway of your cottage.
Quiet time in the park is 11pm to 8am.
In order to respect everyone in the park, we ask that music be turned off after this time.
No, we ask that ATVs and mini bikes are not brought to the park. This is because the roads throughout the park are narrow and there are many families with small children playing throughout the park. Thank you for understanding.
No, all of our cottages are smoke-free and vape-free.
We ask that if you do smoke to please do so outside the cottage and to please dispose of the cigarette butts responsibly in the garbage and not on the ground and not in the campfire pit.
Smoking and vaping is also not permitted at the:
- Beach
- Playpark
The balance owing for your stay can be paid upon check in at our Park Store. Payment options include cash, debit/credit, or e-transfer.
Yes, all cottages have free WIFI in them.
The network name and passwords are all displayed on the router inside of each of the cottages.
No, the cottages do not have TVs in them. They do however have WIFI, so you are able to bring a tablet, computer or small TV with you for your stay if you prefer.

The park is located in the township of Lanark Highlands, on the west shore of Clayton Lake.
If able, please inform park staff of the emergency so that they can help direct emergency responders within the park.
A telephone is available to use in the Park Office if needed.
Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
- There is an outdoor, publicly accessible 24/7, AED located on the front porch of the park store at the park entrance
